Belonging Score Methodology

Exactly how the number on your dashboard is calculated — no black box.

What it is

The Belonging Score is a 0–100 number built from three things we can actually measure inside Mucho Gusto: how connected your team is to each other, how many people have activated (recorded an intro), and how evenly recognition (likes, comments, views) is spread across the org rather than concentrated on a few people.

The formula

Belonging Score = round(100 × (0.40 × Connectivity Index + 0.35 × Activation Rate + 0.25 × Recognition Equity))

These weights are fixed and the same for every tenant — nobody's score is graded on a curve.

The three components

  • Connectivity Index (40%). The share of active members with 3 or more recorded "met" connections (from watching an intro or attending a meeting together). We use a threshold share rather than a raw edges-per-possible-edges ratio because the latter becomes tiny and unreadable once an org passes about 50 people.
  • Activation Rate (35%). The share of active members who have recorded at least one intro video.
  • Recognition Equity (25%). 1 − Gini coefficient of received engagement (likes, reactions, comments, and distinct viewers) across active members. Higher means recognition is spread more evenly; lower means it's concentrated on a few people.

"Active members" means people in your org who signed in within the last 90 days — the same population you're billed for.

Other numbers on your dashboard

  • Week-one connections. Of members who joined at least 7 days ago, the share whose first week produced 3 or more connections. The clearest single onboarding signal we have.
  • 90-day cohort retention. Of members hired in a given month, the share still active 90 days later. Hire date comes from your connected HRIS when you have one; otherwise we estimate it from each person's signup date, and we always tell you on the dashboard which one was used for a given cohort.
  • Manager connectivity (Scale plan). The same activation/connection numbers, broken out per manager, sorted so the teams with the weakest connectivity surface first.

What this score is not

It is not a benchmark against any external dataset, industry, or company — we don't publish or imply a comparison to any outside figure (including Gallup's engagement research) because we haven't independently validated that our score predicts the same outcomes theirs does. It is a measure of your own org's connectivity, activation, and recognition equity, on your own scale, trackable over time.

It is also not a performance review input, and it says nothing about any individual — every metric here is computed and shown at the org or team level only.

This page describes the formula as implemented in the product today. If the weights or definitions ever change, this page changes with them.
